School Music Development Plan 2024 2025

School Music Development Plan 2025 2026

Each year, we review and refine our curriculum to ensure it continues to meet the needs of our learners and prepares them well for life in Modern Britain.  The impact of our Music Development Plan (2024 2025) was considered in July 2025 and our findings informed decisions for 2025 2026:

School Music Development Plan 2024 2025 Review Summary

Over the academic year 2024-2025, our music development plan aimed to enhance the musical engagement of our pupils significantly. We set a target to double the percentage of children participating in music tuition to 10%. However, through dedicated efforts and innovative programming, we successfully raised this figure to an impressive 15%.
Our pupils showcased their talents at a local music festival, where they competed with great success, further fostering a sense of community and pride in their musical achievements. The children are always proud to represent Ruswarp School!  Throughout the year, we have focused on enhancing the children’s understanding of notable composers and musicians, thereby enriching their musical knowledge.
Moreover, we have observed a marked increase in the confidence of our children in their singing abilities. They are now able to listen to and analyse music with greater effectiveness, demonstrating improved critical listening skills.
To further enrich our music curriculum, we provided a wealth of diverse musical experiences and built on the children's cultural capital through using sea shanties - a direct link to our local heritage. However, we recognise the need for additional opportunities for pupils to gain exposure to live musical performances, which would further enhance their appreciation and understanding of music and this is our aim for 2025 2026.

In addition to our exceptional curriculum music lessons, which include musical instrument tuition from our speciaist music teacher, Mr Chatto, we have a lively after school recorder club.

We love to take our musical offer into the local community, from singing Christmas carols in care homes, to sharing a Christmas musical extravaganza with our families.  This aligns perfectly with our vision to Think for Yourself and Act for Others.
