Musical Instrument Tuition

At Ruswarp, we are proud to offer outstanding musical instrument tuition that nurtures our children’s musical skills and creativity. Our Year 3 children benefit from weekly, one-hour whole-class lessons led by our dedicated music specialist, Mr Chatto. These sessions provide focused, incremental teaching on a wide range of percussion and tuned instruments, helping pupils develop technical control, fluency, and expressive abilities in music. Currently, the lessons support children’s understanding of musical notation, which is carefully integrated with the wider music curriculum to ensure coherent progression in their musical knowledge and skills.

This specialist-led approach reflects the principles of high-quality music education identified by OFSTED, emphasising gradual, iterative learning that builds procedural knowledge and expressive musicianship. The consistent weekly timetable ensures children have sufficient time to consolidate skills and deepen their musical understanding, preparing them well for future learning.

In addition to whole-class tuition, individual and small group lessons can be arranged through North Yorkshire Music Services. While these lessons usually involve a cost to families, concessions are available to support access. Please contact us for more details on how to arrange these enriching opportunities.

Our Music Lead, Mrs Hogarth, supports the children to deliver memorable performances in local venues.   The children also excel in local competitions, such as Eskdale Festival.
